The Bulgarian seaside, at full volume

Slanchev Bryag — Sunny Beach in its export name — is the largest resort on the Bulgarian coast and, arguably, the most efficient summary of the affordable Eastern European beach holiday. The sand runs for several kilometres, fine and shelving gently into the water, and behind it stands an almost unbroken wall of hotels, bars and restaurants. It is not a discreet destination and does not pretend to be. The days belong to families and pools; the evenings belong to a seafront that rarely calls it a night.

You do not come to Sunny Beach for monuments, but for energy and organised fun. A few real anchors:

Beaches

To the north, [Rumba Beach](/plaje/rumba-beach) is livelier, while southward [Cacao Beach](/plaje/cacao-beach) is beach-club territory. Loungers and umbrellas are charged on most serviced sections — rates are approximate and shift from year to year.

Getting there

The nearest airport is Burgas, roughly 30 km south; the drive takes under an hour (approximate, traffic depending). Regular buses also run from Burgas to the resort. Driving from Romania, the usual route is via Vama Veche / Durankulak, then along the coast road.

Tips

• Season: July–August are the peak — packed beach, higher prices. June and September are calmer, with the water still warm into early September.
• Room vs noise: check the map distance to the club zone before booking.
• Children: pick a hotel toward the resort's edge and a beach with a gentle entry.
