About Sunny Beach
Sunny Beach (Slanchev bryag) is the largest and best-known resort on Bulgaria's southern Black Sea coast, and the beach that shares its name is its beating heart: a wide ribbon of golden sand running for kilometres along the bay beside Nessebar. This is Bulgaria's go-to beach for those after a good time — beach bars, music, water sports and an energy that carries on well into the night. Its character is unmistakable: lively, busy, and built for loud, sociable holidays.
In the water The sand is golden, fine and plentiful, and the entry into the sea is gradual: the seabed shelves gently, with no sudden drops, which keeps the water approachable even for those less used to the sea. It deepens steadily further out, but the shallows near shore stay easy — good for wading and summer games.
Practical The season runs roughly from May to September, peaking in July and August when the resort is at its liveliest. Sunny Beach suits younger crowds and groups chasing parties, nightlife and a beach that never quite switches off; families may prefer the calmer early mornings. It's easy to reach by car or bus from Burgas and Nessebar, and within the resort everything is walkable. Bring serious sun protection and water — the midday sun on the pale sand is strong.
