About Goren Alekov vodopad
Goren Alekov Waterfall (Goren Alekov vodopad) is a waterfall on Mount Vitosha near Sofia, hidden in the forest of the Aleko area, one of the most accessible parts of the massif. It makes a pleasant stop for hikers, rewarding the effort with cool water and the quiet of the mountain forest.
What to see The water tumbles over rocky steps among the spruce, forming a cool and photogenic spot that is especially lovely in spring and early summer, when the flow is stronger after the snowmelt. The trail to the falls runs through Vitosha's coniferous forest and combines easily with other paths in the Aleko area, including hikes toward the Cherni Vrah summit.
Practical The starting point is in the Aleko area, reachable by car along the mountain road from Sofia, and in season by cable car or seasonal transport. From there the waterfall is reached on marked paths through a forest walk. The best time to visit is from spring to autumn; in winter the area is under snow. Wear proper footwear, as the path can be slippery near the water, and check the forecast before you set out.
