About Borisova Gradina Park
Borisova Gradina Park
Borisova Gradina is Sofia's oldest and best-loved park, a generous sweep of shaded avenues, lawns and lakes unfolding across the central part of the capital. Named after Tsar Boris III, the park was laid out over several decades by noted landscape gardeners and has long been the city's green lung and favourite place to stroll.
What to see
The park blends formal, classically styled avenues with stretches that feel almost like woodland. You'll find quiet lakes, fountains, monuments and statues scattered among mature trees, alongside sports grounds, running paths and playgrounds. Within its grounds stand several well-known Sofia landmarks, including the city's large stadium and sports arenas. In spring and autumn the park changes colour entirely, offering some of the loveliest walks in the city.
Practical
Being in central Sofia, the park is easily reached on foot from the tourist areas, or by tram or metro. Entry is free. It makes an ideal break between museum and cathedral visits, a spot for coffee at one of its terraces, or an evening walk. It combines easily with the capital's central sights, which lie just a few minutes away.
