About "Russian" Beach

"Russian" Beach is one of the beaches in the Nessebar area on Bulgaria's southern Black Sea coast. The nickname — used informally by locals and visitors — points to a stretch of shore that became popular with a particular set of holidaymakers; we have no official account of where the name comes from, so we leave it as it circulates rather than attaching a story we can't verify. The beach is part of the coast around old Nessebar, a UNESCO town, and offers a more modest alternative to the big strips of the neighbouring resorts.

In the water The sand is fine, and the entry into the sea is gradual: the seabed slopes gently from the shore with no sudden drops, which keeps the shallows easy. It deepens steadily further out.

Practical The season runs roughly from May to September, with the warmest water in July and August. With its gentle entry, the beach suits families and anyone after a quiet swim. It's most easily reached by car from Nessebar or along the coastal road, with bus links from nearby resorts. As a less developed beach, bring an umbrella, water and sun protection.
