About Plazh Nesebar

Nessebar's town beach sits right at the gateway to one of the most photographed places on the Bulgarian coast. The old peninsula — with its medieval churches and timber houses — is only a short walk away, and that proximity gives the beach its particular character. You lie on the sand with the stone profile of the old town behind you and the bay stretching out in front. This is very much a resort-town beach, woven into the life of both the new and the old Nessebar, rather than a hidden cove.

Sand and getting in The sand is fine and easy on bare feet, and the entry into the water is gradual, with no sudden drop-offs — the depth builds slowly, which makes it comfortable for anyone who isn't a confident swimmer. On calm summer days the Black Sea here is generally gentle, with only small waves.

That combination — fine sand and a slow, shelving entry — is what makes the beach especially well suited to families with children, who can wade in without worry. The swimming season runs roughly from May to September, with the warmest stretch in the middle of summer. The beach is an easy walk from town, and Nessebar is well connected by road to Burgas and the surrounding resorts. Bring water, sunscreen and a hat, as natural shade on the sand is limited. Being right beside the old town is a real bonus: you can pair a day on the sand with a wander through the peninsula's churches and ruins.
