About Pomorie Pier

Pomorie Pier

Pomorie is a small resort town on Bulgaria's southern Black Sea coast, set on a narrow spit of land between the sea and a salt lagoon, known for its tradition of salt-making, its therapeutic mud and a quieter atmosphere than the larger resorts. The town's pier reaches from the shore out to sea and makes for a pleasant walk, with an open view over the water and the outline of the old town.

What to see and do

Walking out along the pier gives a wide view across the water, ideal for photographs, especially at sunrise and sunset. From it you look back at the silhouette of old Pomorie, with its traditional houses, and out to the open sea. It is a relaxed spot, good for a pause, for watching the waves or simply breathing in the salt sea air.

Practical information

The pier is in the old part of town, easily reached on foot from the seafront. Access is free and the walk is enjoyable in any season, though in bad weather the seaward end can be unpleasant because of wind and waves. Nearby it is worth combining a visit with Pomorie's beach, known for its dark, mineral-rich sand, with the salt lagoon and salt pans, and with the town's monastery and salt museum — an ensemble that also makes Pomorie a fitting destination for spa and wellness tourism.
