About Pomorie sandbar
A ribbon of sand between sea and lake
The Pomorie sandbar is one of the most beautiful natural features of Bulgaria's southern coast: a narrow strip of land separating the Black Sea from the famous Pomorie salt lake. The old town itself stretches along this slender peninsula, so a walk down it gives you, in many spots, the open sea on one side and the calm lagoon on the other. With a 4.7 rating, it is a much-loved place for scenery and sunsets.
What to see and experience
On the seaward side you find the beach, while the lake side reveals the distinctive world of the Pomorie salt lake — renowned for its therapeutic mud and its long tradition of salt harvesting. The lake area is also an important bird habitat, part of the wider Burgas lagoon landscape, so keep an eye out for waterbirds. Pomorie has been known since antiquity for its salt resources, and its character as a peninsula-town, with narrow streets and open views over the water, gives it a charm all its own.
Practical information
Pomorie lies on the southern coast between Burgas and Sunny Beach, easily reached by car or local transport from neighbouring resorts. The most pleasant season runs from late spring to early autumn, and early morning or around sunset offers the finest light for walking and photography. Nearby you can explore the old town, learn more about the salt and therapeutic-mud tradition, and combine your visit with a day on the beach. We suggest comfortable footwear for the walk along the sandbar.
