The Waterfalls Canyon

The Waterfalls Canyon is one of the most enjoyable walks in the heart of the Rhodope Mountains, near the Pamporovo area and the town of Smolyan. It is a developed trail through a narrow, forested valley where a mountain stream descends in successive drops, forming a chain of waterfalls and cascades among rocks and coniferous woods. Its cool, shaded atmosphere makes it a welcome destination, especially on hot summer days.

What you'll see The path follows the watercourse, with wooden bridges, steps and walkways crossing the stream from bank to bank. Along the way you pass several waterfalls of varying heights, clear pools and shifting light through the foliage. The dense forest, moss-covered stones and clean mountain air complete the typically Rhodopean setting.

Practical The trail is best done on foot, in comfortable shoes with good grip, as the rocks and wood can be slippery after rain. The most spectacular flow comes in spring and after rainfall, when the waterfalls are at full force. The area is within easy reach for anyone holidaying in Pamporovo or Smolyan and suits a half-day in nature, ideally combined with other Rhodope sights.
