Samokovishteto Ecotrail (Bistritsa Waterfall)

The Samokovishteto Eco-trail (with the Bistritsa Waterfall) is a hiking route in the Rila Mountains, in the Malyovitsa area, one of the most beautiful and wild parts of the highest massif in the Balkans. The trail follows a mountain river valley and leads to a waterfall, making it an excellent choice for a day hike surrounded by nature.

What to see and do The path runs through coniferous forest and alpine meadows, alongside the swift, clear waters typical of Rila. The highlight is the waterfall, especially impressive in spring and early summer when the flow swells after the snowmelt. Practical The starting point is in the Malyovitsa area, reachable by car along the mountain road; from there the route is walked on marked trails. The best time is from late spring to autumn, once the snow has retreated and the paths are passable; in winter the area is under snow and requires proper equipment. Wear good hiking shoes, carry water and spare clothing, and check the forecast, as weather in Rila can change quickly. Nearby lies the famous Malyovitsa area, with mountain huts and trails toward peaks and lakes.
