About Museum "Velyan house"
Velyan House Museum, Bansko
Velyan House is one of the traditional Bulgarian Revival–era houses preserved in the old centre of Bansko, today open as a museum. Bansko, set at the foot of the Pirin Mountains, is famous both as a mountain resort and for its old stone-and-timber architecture, and Velyan House is a fine example of that style.
What to see
The interior keeps the atmosphere of a well-to-do home of its day, with wall paintings, carved woodwork and decorative details that blend local craftsmanship with influences from further afield. The rooms, furnishings and household objects illustrate the life and skill of the region's master craftsmen in centuries past. It's a rewarding visit for anyone interested in Bulgarian history, art and tradition.
Practical
The museum lies in Bansko's historic centre, easy to find among the cobbled streets, close to other house-museums, the old church and the traditional taverns (mehana). It pairs well with a walk through the old town, especially on a day when the mountain weather keeps you off the trails. We recommend checking opening hours in advance.
