About Castle of Ravadinovo
A fairytale castle near Sozopol
The Castle of Ravadinovo, also known as "In Love with the Wind", is one of the most photographed attractions on Bulgaria's southern coast, a few kilometres from Sozopol. Unlike the genuine medieval fortresses of the region, this is a modern complex, built from a single founder's personal vision in white stone with a neo-Gothic flavour: pointed towers, crenellated walls and a water moat. That storybook character, unusual for the area, is exactly what makes it memorable for visitors of all ages.
What to see
The estate is more than the castle building itself. Around it stretch landscaped gardens, lakes with swans, free-roaming peacocks, shaded paths and decorative fountains. The grounds typically include a chapel, a wine cellar and spaces with art and curated collections, and evenings may feature shows or projections. The towers and terraces give pleasant views over the park, and the well-kept setting makes it ideal for a relaxed stroll and photographs.
Practical
The castle sits in the village of Ravadinovo, very close to Sozopol, and is easily reached by car or on organised excursions from nearby resorts. There is an entrance fee, and opening hours and prices vary by season, so it's worth checking before you go. Spring and summer are the most rewarding, when the gardens are in bloom; it can get busy at peak times, so mornings are best. Afterwards, Sozopol's old town, with its wooden houses and nearby beaches, rounds off a perfect day on the southern coast.
