About Sozopol

Sozopol rose on the site of ancient Apollonia, one of the oldest Greek settlements on the western Black Sea coast. The old town, with its narrow lanes and National Revival timber houses, keeps the air of a port that never rushed to modernise.

Unlike its neighbouring resorts, Sozopol has held on to a sense of community, with fishermen, workshops and galleries. The Apollonia arts festival, which animates the town in late summer, sustains a cultural reputation that sets it apart along this stretch of coast.
