Church Uspenie Bogorodichno

The Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God (Uspenie Bogorodichno) is an Orthodox church in the Stara Planina region, near the Uzana plateau, in the geographic heart of Bulgaria. The feast of the Dormition, celebrated on 15 August, is one of the most widespread and beloved in the Orthodox world.

It is a community church whose value lies in its role as a place of prayer and in its mountain surroundings, rather than in any exceptional architectural scale. Details about the date of construction and any interior painting would need verification on site; we prefer to stay honest rather than fill gaps with guesswork.

Practical: the church is an active place of worship, reached by car through the Gabrovo–Uzana area, in the middle of the Balkan Mountains. Modest dress and respect for services are appreciated. The best time to visit is spring through autumn, when the Uzana area also offers hiking trails, meadows and clear mountain air.
