Mud beach

Mud Beach also lies in the Balchik area on Bulgaria's northern coast, along the same hilly shoreline that frames the town's picturesque bay. The name points to the stretch of shore known for the mud deposits found in this part of the coast — a trait that gives the beach a character of its own, different from the typical sandy strands.

The shoreline is mixed, with sand alternating with firmer ground, and the sea enters gradually, with no sudden drop-offs. It's a quiet shore, better suited to relaxing and slowing down than to lively crowds.

In practice, the coastal season runs roughly from May to September, with the warmest months in July and August. Its restful feel suits travellers after calm and a more secluded spot near Balchik. You reach it by car from Varna or straight from Balchik, just next door. As with any less-developed beach, it's worth bringing your own beach-day essentials — umbrella, water and sun protection — plus comfortable footwear for ground that isn't all fine sand.
