About The Pier of Burgas
The Pier of Burgas
In Burgas, the largest city on Bulgaria's southern Black Sea coast, the pier — known to locals simply as "the Bridge" (Mostа) — stretches from the Sea Garden out over the water and is one of the city's emblems. It is a favourite promenade for locals and visitors alike, especially towards evening, when the light shifts across the water and the wide bay of Burgas.
What to see and do
On the pier you walk out above the sea, with an open view over the bay and the horizon. The widened end is an ideal spot for photographs, for watching the waves, or simply for sitting and listening to the sea. It is one of the most popular places in the city for both sunrise and sunset, much sought after by photographers. On the landward side, the pier connects naturally to the paths of the Sea Garden, the leafy clifftop park full of greenery, statues and terraces.
Practical information
The pier is in the centre of Burgas, at the edge of the Sea Garden, easily reached on foot from downtown. Access is free, and the walk is enjoyable in any season, though in strong wind or storms the seaward end may be closed or unpleasant. The finest moments are early morning and evening. Nearby are the central beach, the casino in the park and many cafés, so the pier combines easily with a relaxed stroll through the city centre.
