After dark, the water jets rise and fall in time with the music while coloured floodlights wash the cascades in shifting hues. The show runs in the evening once it gets dark, with a pleasant promenade atmosphere as locals and visitors gather on the surrounding benches and paths. Tsar Simeon Garden itself is worth a stroll, with its landscaped greenery.

Practical

The fountains sit centrally and are easy to reach on foot from the city's main pedestrian street (the Glavnata). The best time to visit is on a warm evening from spring through autumn, when the water-and-light shows run regularly. Entry to the park is free. Plenty of cafes and restaurants are nearby, and the Old Town with its ancient monuments is only minutes away. Check local show times, as they can vary by season.
