Dolphinarium Varna

The Varna Dolphinarium is one of the classic attractions of the Bulgarian coast, set within the Sea Garden (Primorski Park), the city's green balcony opening onto the Black Sea. It is one of the few dolphinariums in this part of Europe and, for decades, one of the most popular outings for families with children holidaying along the northern coast, from Varna up to Golden Sands and Sunny Day.

What to see The main draw is the dolphin show, in which trained animals perform jumps, dances and skill routines in a covered pool with seating for the audience. The programme is aimed above all at children, though adults usually enjoy the display of agility and the interaction between dolphins and trainers. Shows run for a limited time and take place at set hours through the day.

Practical The dolphinarium stands in the Sea Garden, easily reached on foot from central Varna or by public transport; from the neighbouring resorts you can arrive by car or by coastal buses. It is worth checking show times in advance and booking tickets, as seats fill quickly in high season. A visit combines naturally with a stroll through the Sea Garden, the aquarium and the nearby sea-view terraces. Note that this is a show involving animals in captivity – something some visitors prefer to weigh up beforehand.
