The church of the "Holy Dormition of the Mother of God"

Set in the Batak – Tsigov Chark area in the heart of the Rhodope Mountains, the church of the "Holy Dormition of the Mother of God" (Sveto Uspenie Bogorodichno) is an Orthodox church dedicated to the Dormition of the Mother of God, the feast of 15 August. The Rhodopes are a region of deep faith, with mountain villages where the church has always been a gathering point for the community.

It is reached by car from Batak and the Tsigov Chark resort, conveniently from the area's main roads. The best time is summer, around the patronal feast, or early autumn when the Rhodope forests are at their finest. A visit combines naturally with Batak Lake and the other churches in the area.
