About Praveshki monastery "St. Theodore Tyron"

Praveshki Monastery, dedicated to St. Theodore Tyron, is a small monastic site in the mountain area of Rila, near the resort of Borovets — Bulgaria's oldest mountain resort. St. Theodore Tyron, a great martyr of the early Christian centuries, is warmly honoured in the Orthodox tradition, especially in the first week of Great Lent.

It is a discreet retreat, far from the major routes, suited to pilgrims and hikers crossing the foothills of Rila. Exact historical data on the monastery's founding and development is limited, so we describe it with respect and without inventing details — precise information needs verification on site or with the diocese.

Practical It is reached by car along mountain roads in the Borovets-Samokov area, in the heart of the Rila massif. If it is an active place of worship, dress modestly and keep the proper quiet. It is most pleasant from spring through autumn, when the paths are open; in winter, the Borovets area becomes a ski centre. Around you lies the whole of Rila — mountain trails, peaks and, within reasonable reach, the Rila Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The 4.6 rating points to a place enjoyed by those who find it.
