About Albena Beach

Albena Beach is the heart of the resort that shares its name, one of the long-standing destinations on Bulgaria's northern Black Sea coast, set in a broad bay between Varna and Balchik. Albena was purpose-built as a resort, and its long, open beach, backed by a green ribbon of vegetation, remains the main reason families return year after year.

The sand is fine and the entry into the water is shallow, staying gentle and low for a good distance from the shore. That shallow shelf is probably the beach's most prized feature: children can play safely, and the water warms quickly on sunny days.

In practice, the swimming season runs roughly from May to September, peaking in July and August. With its fine sand and shallow water, Albena is best suited to families with children. It's an easy drive along the coastal road from Varna, whose airport is relatively close, and there are seasonal links to Balchik and the surrounding villages. Pack the usual beach-day kit — umbrella, water, sun protection — and a light layer for the cooler coastal evenings.
