About Varna Seaport Lighthouse
Varna Seaport Lighthouse
The lighthouse at the entrance to Varna's harbour is a small, much-loved fixture of the seafront, marking the end of the breakwater that shelters Bulgaria's largest Black Sea port. For visitors it is less a destination in itself than a pleasant point on a waterfront walk and a good spot for photographs of the sea, the ships and the city skyline.
What to see
From the breakwater and the harbour area you get an open view over the Black Sea, the vessels coming and going, and the lighthouse itself standing out against the water. The light is especially beautiful at sunrise and sunset. Right nearby lie the Sea Garden (Morska Gradina), one of the largest parks on the Bulgarian coast, the city beach and the lively promenade.
Practical
The lighthouse sits at the edge of Varna's harbour area, reachable on foot from the centre or from the Sea Garden. It is best combined with a stroll along the seafront, particularly toward evening. Note that part of the port is a working harbour, so access to some sections may be restricted.
