About Obradovtsi Monastery “St. Mina”
Obradovtsi Monastery "St. Mina" is a small monastic house in north-western Bulgaria, in the area of the town of Berkovitsa at the foot of the western Balkan Mountains (Stara Planina). It is dedicated to the Holy Martyr Menas (St. Mina), widely venerated in the Orthodox world. Unlike Bulgaria's great lavras, this is a small, secluded monastery, valued above all for its quiet and its mountain setting. Its exact founding date is not confirmed to us and needs verification, so we treat it with care.
What to see and practical The main draw is the atmosphere of the place itself: a modest little church and a quiet courtyard, set in a landscape of hills and forest. It is reached by car from the Berkovitsa area, one of the most pleasant mountain resort towns of the north-west, known for its clean air and its pottery tradition. It is an active place of worship: dress modestly (shoulders and knees covered) and keep quiet. The best seasons run from spring through autumn. Nearby it is worth exploring Berkovitsa and the hiking trails of the western Balkans, including Mount Kom.
